Ghana Boundary Commission facilitates a validation workshop on Pivotal Framework Agreement on Cross-Border Cooperation between Ghana and Burkina Faso

In a significant move to enhance regional cooperation, the Ghana Boundary Commission facilitated a validation workshop focused on a pivotal Framework Agreement on Cross-Border Cooperation between Ghana and Burkina Faso.

Key objectives of the Cross Border Cooperation are as follows:

i) To promote cross border cooperation by underpaying joint activities to include security, trade, support for deprived communities, migrations and other related issues.

ii) To facilitate future reaffirmation between Ghana and BF on the common land international boundary.

iii) To plan to undertake joint sensitization activities of communities along the international boundary to facilitate continuous collaboration and cooperation at all times.

The workshop, held in Wa, Upper West Region, brought together key stakeholders from the Upper East, Upper West, and Savannah Regions of Ghana. The event also saw high-level engagement between the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Stephen Yakubu and Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Saeed Muhazu Jibril and their counterpart Governors from Burkina Faso. The primary objective was to review and validate the Framework Agreement, setting the stage for its formal signing by the Foreign Affairs Ministries of both states.

The collaboration has been hailed as a crucial step towards strengthening governance and fostering better management of shared borders. The Head of the GIZ Support to the African Union Border Programme, Mr. Valentin Schuetz, commended both states for their commitment towards enhancing cross-border relations, noting the importance of effective governance in this context.

This initiative, supported by the German Government through its implementing agency, GIZ, underscores the growing international commitment to regional stability and cooperation.
