Delegation From African Union Commission Visits Ghana Boundary Commission
The Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the African Union Commission, His Excellency (H.E.), Bankole Adeoye led a three-member delegation to pay a working visit to the Ghana Boundary Commission, on Monday 22 July 2024. HE Adeoye and his team were in Ghana to participate in the 45th Ordinary session of the African Union Executive Council meeting convened in Accra.
After a detailed presentation by the Commission, HE Adeoye commended the Commission for their efforts towards ensuring well-coordinated joint boundary reaffirmation and cross border activities with neighbouring States. He expressed appreciation to the Commission’s work for implementing social intervention programmes for deprived border communities.
He underscored the need for Boundary Commissions on the African Continent to engage in experience-sharing and highlighted their importance in promoting peace and stability on the Continent. He urged all AU Member-States to ratify the African Union Convention on Cross-Border Cooperation (Niamey Convention) to ensure socio-economic integration in Africa.
The Commissioner General of GhBC, Major General Emmanuel Kotia was grateful to HE Adeoye and his team for the visit and expressed appreciation to the AU Commission for the efforts and support at ensuring good border governance on the Continent. Major General Kotia urged the AU Commission to continue to support the activities of Boundary Commissions in Africa towards safeguarding peace and unity on the Continent.
