Bilateral security meeting on cross-boder security between the regions of Bounkani and Savannah
The Ghana Boundary Commission facilitated a bilateral security meeting on cross-boder security between the regions of Bounkani (la Cote d’Ivoire) and Savannah (Ghana) from 1 to 2 November at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
The two-day GIZ-sponsored meeting aims to provide a common platform where various stakeholders across the common international boundary could formally coordinate their efforts towards tackling common security challenges and collaborate on other cross-border issues.
In his opening remarks, the Commissioner General of the Ghana Boundary Commission, Major General Emmanuel Kotia noted that the meeting is a significant initiative towards strengthening the cooperation of local actors between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, as well as safeguarding the well-being of the people that live within and across Bounkani and Savannah regions. He further noted that cross-border crimes are increasingly undermining the security of both states and addressing these challenge require a robust and sustainable cross-border framework between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.
Other speakers at the event included the Executive Secretary of National Boundary Commssion of Côte d’Ivoire, Mr. Konate Diakalidia; Prefect de Doropo of Côte d’Ivoire, Mr. Tohoury Paulin Martial Okou; and Hon. Veronica Alele Heming, DCE for Bole.
