The Fourth Joint Ghana/Cote d’Ivoire Boundary Commissions bi-annual meeting opened in Accra on Monday 4 November 2024. The meeting is aimed at discussing the Joint Reaffirmation of the Land Boundary and Implementation of the ITLOS Ruling on the Maritime Boundaries between Ghana and Cote dIvoire. The meeting will also ratify frameworks agreements for the implementation of various initiatives by the two Boundary Commissions.
Delivering the opening address, the Commissioner General of the Ghana Boundary Commission, Major General Emmanuel Kotia highlighted the remarkable progress made by the two Boundary Commissions towards the joint management of the common land and maritime boundaries between the two countries. He further suggested the need to ensure that the inspection of the international maritime boundary line is jointly undertaken from next year to fulfil the implementation of ITLOS ruling.
The Executive Secretary of the National Boundary Commission of Côte d’Ivoire, Mr. Diakalidia Konate, also commended the two Commissions for the commitment and progress towards the joint efforts for ensuring the maintenance of the common land and maritime boundaries. He further urged the meeting to continue with deliberations peacefully, cordially and collaboratively.
Others present were Dr. Sanou Bakary, the Regional Coordinator of GIZ/AUBP and the President of ESCO Black Volta.
