The Ghana Boundary Commission and the National Boundary Commission of Nigeria held their second joint Technical Committee meeting on Tuesday, 26 November 2024, at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra. The meeting focused on discussing technical issues on the common maritime boundary between the two countries.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner General of the Ghana Boundary Commission, Major General Emmanuel Kotia, stressed the importance of strong cross-border cooperation frameworks based on the African Union Convention. He also called for aligning maritime delimitation with human intervention strategies to ensure that deprived communities on the maritime zones benefit from such interventions.
In his address, Surveyor Adamu Adaji, Director General of the National Boundary Commission of Nigeria, urged participants to be guided by the spirit of brotherhood between the two nations.
Delivering the keynote, the Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy and the Guest of Honour of the event, Rear Admiral Issah Yakubu, underscored the need for closer collaboration between Ghana and Nigeria on maritime security and related issues. Also present was H.E. Ifedayo Adeoye, the Acting High Commissioner of Nigeria to Ghana.
